Andrew Donlon of Germantown, Maryland has been studying the bagpipes since 2003, when he began lessons with the Rockville High School Pipe Band in suburban DC. In addition to the Rockville High School band, Andrew has played with the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band of Ontario, Canada, the College of Wooster Pipe Band of Ohio and currently plays with the New York Metro Pipe Band and is the Pipe Major of the MacMillan Pipe Band, also of Rockville. Andrew competes as a soloist both domestically and abroad, and has been quite fortunate to win events in the United States, Canada and Scotland, most notably the Piobaireachd at the 2014 Perth Highland Games in Perth, Scotland, and the 2015 United States Silver Medal at Winter Storm in Kansas City, Missouri, among other awards.
For the March 17th event Andrew will be presenting a recital and lecture on the history and music of the Great Highland Bagpipes. This will include a large amount of music varying from the Irish and Scottish traditions, and a great deal of modern music for the bagpipes. At the end of the recital, Donlon will also open up the floor for requests and questions from the audience. It is sure to be both entertaining and informative!
