Have you ever wondered what your grandfather’s watch was worth? Or that set of silver flatware collected on your wedding day? Or the quilt you bought at a flea market? Join friends and neighbors on Saturday, May 16th at Chevy Chase Village Hall; bring your hidden treasures (or a photograph if they are too big to carry) to get the answer. Four expert appraisers from Sloans & Kenyon, our local auction house, will be on hand from 1:00 to 5:00 pm to evaluate jewelry, silver, Asian art, old maps, rare books—almost anything you have stored away—and to tell you what your collectibles are worth.

Trash or Treasure registration will entitle you to a specific time for your appraisal, minimizing the time spent waiting in line. The afternoon will also feature two informative short talks: Stephanie Kenyon and T.A.D. Tharp will tell us about “What’s Hot, What’s Not” and how to “Get Smart About Art”. And in addition to all of the above, Trash or Treasure will include refreshments and door prizes, including a chance to win free tickets on the Vamoose Bus to NYC!

Each registration ($45 before May 12th and $55 beginning May 12 and at the door) will entitle you to a verbal appraisal (with relevant historical background) for three items. If you decide to consign one or more of your collectibles (valued at $300 or more) for auction, S&K will take your treasure(s) and place them for sale in one of its upcoming auctions. You will receive a receipt for your consignment. Proceeds from the sale (minus a commission) will be mailed directly to you. S&K will pick up and transport any large items to the auction house at no cost to you.

You can consign your treasure(s) to Chevy Chase At Home as a charitable donation. S&K will sell them at auction, then contribute the proceeds to CC@H. S&K will not charge a commission for donated items. You will be notified of the sale price and receive the amount at sale that may be deducted from your taxible income as a charitable donation. Items consigned as a donation to CC@ H may be turned over to S&K at the Village Hall on May 16th.

You can register by clicking on the button above, by calling the office (301-657-3115), or by clicking here to download a registration form which you can mail in with your check.
