The Chinese American Museum (CAMDC) is a project, currently underway, to create a new museum in the nation’s capital about the Chinese American experience, Chinese American culture, and its contributions to our country and the world. The effort began as a concept in early 2017 with the formation of the nonprofit Chinese American Museum Foundation. By the Fall of 2017, the Foundation acquired a building and began renovating and updating the space to be a first-class museum. The project was formally announced to the museum and academic community in November of 2018. In October or 2019, the museum hosted two academic conferences and opened its doors to a limited number of “sneak peek” visitors to see the space, some early exhibitions, and learn more about the museum. While the global health crisis presents a number of challenges, the museum team continues to work to build the museum and its programs through development, curatorial, and strategic efforts. The next phase of the physical, permanent museum is expected to be in the Spring of 2021.

David Uy, Executive Director of the Chinese American Foundation, will join the Palisades Village to talk about the process of bringing a museum of this caliber to Washington and share slides with us of the museum in progress. There will be an opportunity to ask questions following his presentation.
