Tai Chi, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm

Tai chi, short for Tai ji quan, or T'ai chi ch'üan (太极拳), is a non-competitive, self-paced Chinese martial art that is practiced for self-defense training, health benefits, and as a type of moving meditation. Tai chi promotes calmness through gentle, flowing movements performed in a slow, focused manner and accompanied by deep breathing. A tai chi practice can help you fight stress and improve your mood, strength, flexibility and balance.

Who can do tai chi? Tai chi is low impact and puts minimal stress on muscles and joints, making it safe for all ages and fitness levels. Tai chi is especially suitable for older adults. In addition, tai chi requires no special equipment and can be done anywhere, so it it inexpensive and easy to fit into your regular routine.
I am just recovering from back surgery. Is it safe for me to do tai chi? Although tai chi is generally safe, people with joint problems, back pain, fractures, severe osteoporosis or a hernia should consult their health care provider before trying tai chi. Please let the instructor know about your limitations and any pain, inflammation or injury, so that he can modify the movements to accommodate your needs.
