About this event
Retirement is a time for reinventing yourself, either by design or by default. Teaching kindergarten in Thailand wasn't the job that retiree Dian Seidel had in mind when she convinced her husband that they should try teaching English abroad. But coping with rambunctious children, sweltering heat, and Covid-19 turned out to be the challenge she needed to reshape her outlook and restructure her life. Upon returning from Thailand to pandemic lockdown, she again reinvented herself and took on the challenges of writing and becoming a published author. Her new book is Kindergarten at 60: A Memoir of Teaching in Thailand.
Join Chevy Chase At Home and Dian for a conversation about retirement, working abroad as an older adult, Thailand, volunteering, staying active, writing, and related topics. Speaker Dian Seidel used to be a climate scientist at NOAA. Now, in retirement, she teaches yoga at local gyms, teaches English to immigrants to the DC area, and writes. Her essays have appeared in Passager, Anak Sastra, Lucky Jefferson, Pen in Hand, The New York Times, and Bethesda Magazine.
The talk is free and open to all. Please register at right in order to receive the Zoom link, or contact the office at info@chevychaseathome.org or (301) 657-3115
