Kathleen McGuinness authentically shares hands-on tech solutions after 10 years of family caregiving. She will share her personal and professional journey of how she learned to use basic technology to assist her in caring for her aging parents and later her husband, who was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and FTD. Kathleen will present technologies for reducing repetitive questions, being in two places at once, meltdowns, wandering, using simple fixes found online, apps, and Alexa.

Kathleen is a 4th generation Washingtonian and a communitarian. A Certified Dementia Practitioner and Certified EOL (End of Life Specialist), she started her career as an executive with a Fortune 500 company (Trans World Airlines) for 20 years. She then served as a Senior Leader/Director of USA with a foreign government in the British West Indies for 14 years. She resigned her role in the West Indies to be home and care for her parents for five years locally in Chevy Chase while they aged in place, until they could not. Her husband became ill shortly afterwards with Supranuclear Palsy and FTD, and Kathleen cared for him for 5 years before he passed. Kathleen re-entered the workforce as a Director of Community Relations for SmithLife Homecare in early 2018. She has served on the Board of Directors of Chevy Chase At Home for 5 years. She has two grown children raised in Chevy Chase and Potomac.

Hosted by Chevy Chase At Home and open to all.
